Berkeley City College is a LEED Silver certified building in a downtown urban setting serving a diverse and vibrant community. murakami/Nelson designed 24,000 sf of new and remodeled spaces within the existing building shell. We worked with individual departments to refine and prioritize their needs and develop programmatic solutions to the challenges of 21st century teaching. The project included 4 classrooms with operable walls, a 90 seat tiered lecture hall, 3 science laboratory classrooms, 2 art studios and a multimedia studio for video production and digital photography. The improvements honor the sustainable goals of the Peralta Community College District.
