Seismic upgrades for the 1930’s Wildwood Elementary School were required throughout the school as part of the Piedmont’s Seismic Safety Bond Program This work provided the opportunity to address modernization/sustainability, accessibility, and life/safety deficiencies. At the historically significant auditorium, improvements were made from the exterior of the building to preserve the interior finishes, extensive woodwork, and hand painted ceiling panels. Upgrades to the remainder of the campus were done from the interior, where finishes were removed and wall locations were reconfigured. Original woodwork was reinstalled and high efficiency fixtures, sustainable products, and indoor environmental quality issues were addressed. Restrooms were renovated with water efficient plumbing fixtures. High efficiency furnaces and light fixtures, rapidly renewable products, and low-emitting materials for indoor chemical and pollutant control were incorporated into the building improvements. The project was designed to meet CHPS standards.
